Archpriest Peter awarded the Mitre

Congratulations to Archpriest Peter Sheko who was awarded the Mitre by Archbishop George on our feast day, The Holy Protection of the Mother of God, on October 14, 2025.   There are nine levels of awards in the priesthood, with Mitred Archpriest being the seventh rank, and typically the highest award.  Ranks beyond this are exceedingly rare.  A diocesan ruling bishop submits requests to the Synod to approve awards above the lower ones.  He cannot elevate a priest to the rank of archpriest, for example, without Synod's approval, and all the more to grant the right to wear a mitre. Fr Peter has served as a priest for nearly four decades; he will celebrate his 40 years of ordination on November 30 this year.  We thank Fr Peter for his years of service to our parish and wish him “Many years” to come!
