Fr Nicholas Dalinkiewicz receives an award at the Annual Diocesan Clergy Conference

At the recent Australian and New Zealand Annual Clergy Conference, senior priest, Archpriest Nicholas Dalinkiewicz, was awarded the mitre by Archbishop George, on Wednesday March 19, 2025.  Fr Nicholas has recently celebrated the 41st year of his ordination, and has been tireless in his pastoral duties for our parish over all these decades. 

Mitred archpriests are granted the honour of wearing the jewelled mitre during the celebration of the divine liturgy and other solemn liturgical moments. The mitre is the same as that worn by a bishop with the exception that there is no cross on the top of it.

There are nine levels of awards in the priesthood, with Mitred Archpriest being the seventh rank, and typically the highest award.  Ranks beyond this are exceedingly rare.  A diocesan ruling bishop submits requests to the Synod to approve awards above the lower ones.  He cannot elevate a priest to the rank of archpriest, for example, without Synod's approval, and all the more to grant the right to wear a mitre.
