The Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God Cathedral, Melbourne, began online Liturgics classes in the lead up to Pascha, 2019.
Initially delivered weekly to a live audience, the ongoing classes are now fortnightly and will be uploaded as time allows our volunteers! Thank you to our choir conductor, Dima Souprounovich, for his extraordinary effort in putting together the course in his precious spare time and for giving permission to share the course freely with the general public. There are several ways to approach the resources. You can listen to audio only in the car, or on the go, watch the full video with slides and audio synced, or peruse the slides at your own pace. If you are enjoying the course and would like to make a donation to the church, we would encourage you to do so. |
In Lessons 1 through to 3, you will be introduced to the concept of liturgics and why it is essential for parishioners to study the subject. We will start with the daily cycle of prayers and move on to the weekly cycle, where every day has its own commemoration. We will learn about some of the texts that we use in services.

From lesson 10, we will continue to look at Vigil vespers, starting with the Augmented litany (which asks us to intensify our prayer). In lesson 11 the hymns of the Aposticha are covered. We end the vespers part of the All-night vigil and in slide 2 look at the Matins component of the All-night vigil.
