Parish Council
This group of people consists of parish clergy, Head Sister and eight elected members (including Church Warden, Treasurer and Secretary). During the Annual General Meeting, Parish Council members are elected to help run the day-to-day practical affairs of the Parish. They meet every month and whenever necessary as well as helping during Church services.
Become a member
Why become a member? Becoming a parish member is making a statement of belonging to the Parish family. The difference between members and non-members, although often not noticed, is like the difference between members of a family and visitors to the family home. In previous years the benefits have been mainly spiritual and legal rather than material. The Parish Council is now looking at ways to make parish membership attractive in more ways, such as giving discounts to members in hiring the Church and hall for private services and receptions. What are the benefits of membership? Parish members have the right to participate in Annual General Meetings and Extraordinary Meetings of the Parish. They receive reports concerning all aspects of Parish life and make decisions about important matters such as capital projects, purchases and sales of property and housekeeping matters. They elect office holders (who become Parish trustees) and regular members of Parish Council. They approve the annual budget. What is expected of members? Members, in addition to annual membership fees, are expected to comply to a code of conduct outlined in the Parish by-laws. They are expected to attend regularly, participate in the sacraments of the Church and not to engage in illegal and immoral activities. That should be accepted without saying, but it is spelt out in the by-laws, which also describe the roles of all office holders and regular members, the Parish Council General Meetings and other practical aspects of Parish life. How to become a member One becomes a parish member by filling in a form available from the candle kiosk or which can be downloaded, here. This is tabled at the next monthly meeting of Parish Council. The Parish Secretary then informs the person in writing concerning the decision. A successful applicant becomes a full member after a qualifying period of six months. |
